Love that picture! which grass is it?
Hi Panayoti! It’s Anthochortus crinalis, South African orgy grass. Strong winds sculpt these plants into fascinating, if unkempt, forms. It’s very easy to germinate and grow, although collecting the tiny seeds borne in low numbers can be tedious. It’s reliably damaged by frost in the mid 20′s, but regenerates well from portions insulated by the densely woven tuffets. Recent fires at the pictured locality seem to have extirpated the small population there. I have a nice crop that will be offered at my class.
